Frankenstein Lives

There have been many monsters in fiction but none has grabbed the public's attention like the character of Frankenstein. The classic tale of a creature brought to life by a mad scientist has chilled every generation since it was first put into print by Mary Shelley in 1818.

The classic Boris Karloff role.

Eventually every literarary classic makes it into the comic books.

Even monsters have a yearbook.

The transformation is complete. The once fearful ceature is now a comic book superhero.

Bad Album Covers

I really miss the demise of the vinyl LP, not because of the fidelity of the sound but because of the art on the record cover. With CDs, the artwork was shrunken to miniscule size and when you buy music on the Internet, you're lucky to even get a jpeg. Of course, not all LP cover art was good. The blank canvas of the album cover led many musicians to take esthetic risks with their latest release. I would love to have seen the session where the following artists selected the concept for their record art.

Who Wears The Pants?

In 2008 and 2016, a female became a serious contender for the Presidency of the United States. This achievement can be traced directly to the thousands of women that worked in some way for women's suffrage. The proud suffragette marching down Pennsylvania Avenue has become symbolic of the movement, but we forget how much the issue of women's rights split our nation. Then, as now, different interest groups worked to turn public opinion in their favor.

Mrs. B. Harriman speaks out.

Alice Paul started out as a lobbyist for a suffrage amendment but moved on to civil action. She organized silent protests and civil disobedience actions that led to the arrest and jailing of her and other feminists. Many credit her as having had the greatest influence on passage of the 19th Amendment.
