California Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

Many images of the Station fire near Los Angeles have been shown on TV but to get a real sense of the fire's scope, it helps to look at it from a little further away. Satellite photos show the smoke plumes and outline the extent of the fire.



This is by no means the only fire that has threatened LA. In 2003, fires ringed the city and were burning all the way down to San Diego.




The LA Grand Prix fire in 2004 literally burned right to the edge of the city as shown in this false-color satellite view (red area is burned).
